Farmer’s MarCat and Craft Fair Today at Student Center Patio

by Katy Bennett, Student Activities Board

(April 22, 2014) ― It’s that time of the year again! In honor of agriculture and sustainability, this year the Farmer’s “MarCat” and Craft Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, April 22, on the Student Center Patio. The MarCat is an annual event sponsored by the Student Activities Board Engaging Issues Committee.

“The MarCat has become tradition on campus,” said Student Activities Board Director of Engaging Issues Emily Damron. “The Kentucky Proud farmers are just as excited as we are to connect through locally grown produce.”

Kentucky Proud farmers are bringing locally grown products in hopes of informing student and community organizations of the importance of living a sustainable lifestyle. The MarCat connects students, faculty and staff to local farmers as they purchase freshly grown produce and other food products. Essentially, a mini on-campus mart, the MarCat allows additional community outreach while bringing information about the benefits of truly living healthily.

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
