The conference aimed to promote an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue about Asia’s past and present. The UK graduate students presented papers that explored specific interrelationships between Asia and the United States.
Students from Shanghai University will get a taste of the bluegrass as the UK American Studies Program in the College of Arts and Sciences will host a summit for SU students on Monday, April 22.
At the end of May 2012, the American Studies Center at Shanghai University hosted a three-day symposium and student summit. The summit was a two-part discussion of an excerpt from the book by Maxine Hong Kingston, "The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts." The discussion was facilitated by Michelle Sizemore, an assistant professor in the Department of English. In this interview, Sizemore discusses the text, the unique dynamic that developed between students from different continents, and some reflections on the summit.
University of Kentucky students and faculty will travel to Shanghai in May to share Appalachian culture at the American Studies Center at Shanghai University.
