The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) at the University of Kentucky provides comprehensive English language instruction for non-native English speakers in a university setting. At the Center for English as a Second Language, we assist students in achieving language proficiency goals for academic, professional, and social purposes through multi-level language instruction. The Center for English as a Second Language is dedicated to promoting diversity and to providing reciprocal cultural enrichment opportunities to the University, the community, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Moise Djigbenou came to Kentucky from the Ivory Coast in December of 2000. At the University of Kentucky, he studied electrical engineering with a specialty in electronics, mechanical engineering, technological engineering, and math. He now works at Big Ass Fans in application engineering.
Visiting Vietnamese student, Thanh Thi Hoang, talks about her experience at the University of Kentucky and in the Center for English as a Second Language. She improved her English language skills and fell in love with the city and people of Lexington, Kentucky.
Amongst of all the CESL students, Saudi and Brazilian students were especially fascinated with the guns displayed, while female students enjoyed all the crafts at Shakertown!
The group visited different student workshops and learned from regional experts about different musical instruments like the dulcimer as well as Appalachian music in general.
