Sen. Rand Paul will deliver a public talk March 2 at the University of Kentucky, titled "A Year in the Senate: Discussion and Reflections."

The University of Kentucky celebrates Founders Day with a recognition of faculty achievements Wednesday, Feb. 22.  Recipients of numerous awards will be honored in a special ceremony at 4 p.m. in Worsham Theater in the UK Student Center. The event is open to the campus community and public.

UK President Eli Capilouto, Provost Kumble Subbaswamy, deans and department chairs from various colleges will present the awards, which include the following:

-- Public Scholar Award

-- Albert D. and Elizabeth Kirwan Memorial Award

A collaboration between the GWS and English departments, as well as the African American and Africana Studies and American Studies programs will bring speakers to classes for the benefit of students.

Geography Professor Jeremy Crampton and his students keep an eye on campus, utilize GIS, to map UK's campus.

Series kicks off this Thursday with Linguistics professor Rusty Barrett, with a lecture entitled "Sickening Queens"

Next lecture in "Place Matters" series to take place this Friday. The talk is entitled "Somewheres on the Track: Place, Art, and Music in Eastern Kentucky"

The annual Darwin Lecture Series will feature Eugenie C. Scott, who will present a lecture titled "Darwin: Demon or Revolutionary?" Presented by the Kentucky Section of the American Institute for Professional Geologists, the lecture will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall.

12 UK ROTC honored last Friday for being selected for training in a position that involves frequent flight.

What was expected to be a small project attracted such an inspiring amount of positive feedback from the community, that the authors wanted to share the stories with a broad audience. Using personal narratives from their research, their book focuses on how LGBTQ-identified individuals can cultivate a sense of well-being and a personal identity that allows them to flourish in all areas of life.

A composition by UK music, film and Spanish sophomore Ben Norton has been selected for the Lexington Philharmonic's New Music Experiment, which is highlighting new work from composers. The work will be part of a workshop early next week and will be showcased at a concert on Feb. 17, at Singletary Center for the Arts.
