University of Kentucky alumnus Robert Young developed an innovative career as a doctor soon after leaving UK, but now finds himself the co-owner of Bending Branch, a small, family-owned winery in Texas. Listen in as Laura Sutton speaks with Young about his time at the University of Kentucky and how his educational transitioned into his medical career and interest in producing wine.

MCLLC Alumni Panel: Finding the Right Professional Path

In November, we were given the opportunity to record an alumni panel featuring several accomplished graduates from the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The panel was planned and moderated by Linda Kraus Worley who wanted to give students the opportunity to speak with alumni who have successfully combined their M.A. degrees in MCLLC with another professional degree.

Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame 2014

The College of Arts and Sciences inducted six new members into its Hall of Fame Oct. 10, 2014, with a ceremony at the Singletary Center for the Arts, bringing the current totals to 38 alumni and 13 emeritus faculty A&S Hall of Fame members.

English as a Catalyst: Jaclyn Spraetz

English courses introduce students to skills beyond analyzing novels - teaching them how to interact and connect with other students and improve their skills of analysis. This skill set is useful beyond the classroom, helping former students to succeed in their occupations and as they continue their occupation.  In this podcast, Rachael Gilley, an English undergraduate student, and Jaclyn Spraetz, a 2009 Secondary English Education graduate, discuss how Spraetz's background with English courses impact her daily life. 

Interrupted Service: Gwen Schaefer's Peace Corps Experience in Ukraine

University of Kentucky alumni really do get all around the world. Gwendolyn Schaefer (International Studies/Geography 2013) traveled to Ukraine after her graduation as part of a 27 month long service period with the United State Peace Corps. Unfortunately, Gwen and other Peace Corps volunteers were forced to evacuate from the area in February 2014 due to mounting safety concerns.

Here, Gwen tells us about her time in Ukraine, the people and culture of the nation, and what it was like working there with the Peace Corps.
