Unearthing Roman Secrets: an interview with George Crothers and Paolo Visona
Dripsinum is the name of a place that isn't on any modern map - but, according to recent research, should be on the maps of the ancient Roman Empire. Archaeologists George Crothers and Paolo Visona returned from Italy this summer with data that indicates the whereabouts of the lost Roman settlement, said to be half the size of Pompeii - and another, older site below that!
Composition, Design, and Intent: Arturo Sandoval
Arturo Sandoval, a professor in the College of Fine Arts, discussed representations of beauty and diversity through the work of Appalachian quilt artists. He used the international art quilt competition Quilt National biannual as his main research reference. Quilt National is described as a trendsetter in the fiber art fild and displays the most important and innovative art quilts from around the world. Sandoval's presentation guided attendees through a variety of fiber arts and mixed media quilts.
UK Student's Work Featured in Lexington Philharmonic Experiment
A composition by UK music, film and Spanish sophomore Ben Norton has been selected for the Lexington Philharmonic's New Music Experiment, which is highlighting new work from composers. The work will be part of a workshop early next week and will be showcased at a concert on Feb. 17, at Singletary Center for the Arts.
